Mali has arid desert in north, the interior delta of the Niger river in the center of the country and savanna in the South.
Among the ethnic groups, Bambara is the largest. Other Ethnic groups include: Dogon, Sore, Bozo, Peul, Malinké, Sarakollé, Sénoufon, Songhaï, Moors and Tuaregs.
The Malian economy is centered around agriculture, livestock, and fishing. Mali is also an important gold and cotton exporter.
The history of Mali is characterized by great empires! Among them were the Empire of Ghana, The Empire of Mali, the Songhaï Kingdom, the Toucouleur Kingdom and the Sénoufon Kingdom. Towards the end of the 19th century, colonization put an end to these empires. However, in 1960, Mali obtained its independence. The first leader of independent Mali was Modibo Keita, followed by Moussa Traoré, Alpha Omar Konaré, and the current president Amadou Toumani Touré.
